Students in the Largo/Mid-Pinellas Kiwanis sponsored BUG (Bringing Up Grades) program at Ridgecrest Elementary surround school Guidance Counselor Patti Kirk at a May 30 party the Kiwanis Club hosted for them at the school. Students proudly hold certificates as they celebrate raising a grade in one or more subjects. As a reward, the Kiwanis club hosts a party with snacks and drinks, and gives out prizes to each student who worked hard to raise at least on grade in a subject. All kids in the program get to come to the party, but prizes are only given to those who improved at least one grade in the most recent report card period as an incentive to work harder on their studies. This is one of the most successful programs Kiwanis clubs sponsor in elementary schools, and is in many schools in Pinellas County.
